Your Ripple Coin Effect

Questions

The things people ask.

What happens if I lose it?

Then somebody else finds it, and that is not a failure — a coin found on a train is a coin that carries on. If it is genuinely gone, the chain it started keeps going without it; the record does not depend on the object surviving.

Do I have to give it away?

Nothing forces you. But a coin in a drawer stops, and the whole of it is what happens after it leaves your hands. Most people hold one for about a week.

Can I follow a coin I gave away?

Yes, for as long as it keeps moving. That is the point of registering it — every hand it reaches afterwards reaches your phone.

What stops someone writing something horrible?

Notes are screened before they are published, and anything held reads as a delay rather than an accusation. Anyone can report a note, and a hidden note never breaks the chain — the hop stays, the words go.

Do you know exactly where I was?

We record a precise location to check a handoff really happened in person, and publish only a coarse area. Those are two different pieces of data and they are treated differently. The map shows the neighbourhood, never the doorway.

Do I need an account to buy one?

No. You need one to be told where your coin goes afterwards, and we will email you a link to set that up — but nothing makes you do it at checkout.

What is actually on the coin?

39mm of antique brass, 3mm thick, beaded border. The world in relief on one face with “Giving, Love, Kindness, Charity” round the rim and “Pay it Forward” beneath. The other face carries the code and the QR that opens its journey.

Can I put my own design on one?

On the reverse, yes — your words round the crown and your own mark in the field. The other face never changes: it carries the code, and its geometry is decided by what a phone camera can read rather than by taste.

How long does a custom run take?

A stock coin ships as soon as the order does. A run is engraved for your order and no other, so it is struck first — we send a proof from the same drawing the die is cut from before anything touches metal.

Where do you ship?

The United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Postage and any tax are worked out at checkout once you have said where it is going.

Can I get a refund?

On an unopened stock order, yes. A custom run is engraved for you and cannot go back on a shelf, so it is refundable only before it is struck — which is why we send the proof.

Who is behind this?

A very small operation. The coins are made to order, packed by hand and posted by a person, which is also why the answer to “can you do something unusual” is often yes.
